Sleepy Cat Records is proud to be entering our fifth year as an independent, label. To celebrate this milestone, we are joining The Haw River Ballroom in presenting our 3rd annual Sleepy Fest in the beloved community of Saxapahaw, NC on October 26th, 2024! Sleepy Fest provides a platform for emerging North Carolina-based artists, creates opportunities for our community to connect, and helps raise the funds we rely on to stay in operation. Furthermore, as in the past two years, we intend to use Sleepy Fest to elevate the social justice work that is already happening around us, as well as the kind of thoughtful work we hope to encourage moving forward – including but not limited to racial and environmental justice, anti-colonial/imperialist organizing and discourse, and queer representation/platforming.

Here Come The Mummies Halloween Show, The Ramkat: Thursday, October 31

7 pm doors, 8pm show

Tickets: $37.50 standing floor GA, $60 balcony and perch

A fundraiser for Salvage Station, Asheville

Here Come the Mummies is an eight-piece funk-rock band of 5000 year-old Egyptian Mummies with a one-track mind. Their “Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave” is sure to get you into them (and possibly vice versa). Since their discovery, HCTM has been direct support for P-Funk, Al Green, Mavis Staples, KC and the Sunshine Band, and Cheap Trick; rocked Super Bowl Village; become a regular on The Bob and Tom Show; appeared on That’s My Jam with Jimmy Fallon; played massive festivals like Summer Fest, Summer Camp, Common Ground, Musikfest, and Suwannee Hulaween; and sold tickets by the thousands across large swaths of North America. Maybe that’s why the ladies (and some dudes) can’t stop losing their minds over these mayhem-inducing mavens of mirth.

Some say they were cursed after deflowering a great Pharaoh’s daughter. Others claim they are reincarnated Grammy-Winning studio musicians. Regardless, HCTM’s mysterious personas, cunning song-craft, and unrelenting live show will bend your brain, and melt your face. Get ready!

The Collection: The Final Show & WNC Benefit, The Ramkat: Saturday, November 2

7 pm doors, 8pm show

Tickets: $18 standing floor GA, $30 balcony and perch

The Collection is playing their final show as a band in Winston-Salem at the Ramkat to raise money for communities in western North Carolina that are hurting after the destruction of hurricane Helene. After having to cancel the second leg of their final tour, The Collection wanted to use their last show together as a way to help and support their local communities. Join us on November 2nd to support our neighbors. All of the bands’ proceeds will go towards our neighbors in need.

Indie-pop band The Collection is thrilled to announce their new album, Little Deaths, out now with Nettwerk. The music explores the aches, joys, and acceptance of deep, personal growth after frontman David Wimbish became sober during the pandemic. Little Deaths shows raw vulnerability by rearranging the songs with unconventional instruments, from duct-taped pianos to rubber-bridged guitars, giving each piece an intimate immediacy. The band’s latest single, “The Come Down,” is no exception, challenging the negative stigmas surrounding mental health featured throughout the album.

Schooner You Forget About Your Heart 20th Anniversary Vinyl Release Show, Cat’s Cradle Backroom: Saturday, November 2

Summer Set, Moon Racer

Doors 7pm, Show 8pm

$15 ($5 of each ticket donated to WNC relief)

Soon after the start of this millennium, the long-fabled music scene in the middle of North Carolina seemed on the cusp of a new renaissance. Avaricious talk of Chapel Hill as the next Seattle had subsided to the slow simmer of people making music because it’s what they loved; Raleigh’s wild alt-country moment had likewise downshifted, some groups breaking up and others settling into the rhythms of lifers. But a crop of young bands bolstered by upstart labels and an enthusiastic audience in several interconnected little cities—Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and their many hinterlands—increasingly felt like they had something significant to say. The ever-wooing Rosebuds led the charge nationally, but Des Ark, DeYarmond Edison, Ticonderoga, and The Kingsbury Manx were just four in a flood of groups that made that moment feel so rich. Of them all, Schooner might have been the most beguiling, with a 2004 debut, You Forget About Your Heart, that remains a gem of sad-eyed Southern songwriting wonder, even if most people have yet to hear it.
